Week 19

Very excited about all of the units this semester. We had the first lecture for all of them this week and it went pretty well.

Functional Programming’s first two lectures almost covered the first 5 chapters of Programming in Haskell. Very fast paced. This is good. I believe this is because we will be studying Lambda Calculus in the second half of the course.

Cryptography had a slow start. The Number Theory part of the course comes in the second half of the unit. Currently we’re learning about the different kinds of encryption. The problem sheets look exciting. For the first lab this week, we are given a sequence of encrypted characters that we have to break. I got my joy back.

Theory of Human Computer Interaction is more like Social Science than Computer Science - which is great! It’s a nice break from other technical subjects. There are 12 papers that we’ll read and discuss through the semester.

Artificial Intelligence has only 1 lecture a week. There’s a lab for it as well, which will cover new material. The labs will start from this week onwards.

The unit Research Project Preparation this semester is for us to prepare for our dissertation. I am going through all the proposals today.

I emailed Marylou a couple weeks back mentioning the limited number of Haskell books. She got in touch with the lecturers for the unit and now we have many copies of different books on Haskell. The physical books arrived last week I think, they were displayed in the New Arrivals shelf in the Library. I should have taken a photo! [Edit: Added!]

I made a delicious Garlic Butter Pasta a few days back. I was amazed at how much flavor it had considering it had so little ingredients: Garlic, Butter and Parmesan. Mostly eating Super Veggie for dinner as it’s easy to make. I change up the base frequently; Chickpeas, Black Eyed Beans, Brown Lentils, Green Lentils. Back to drinking Nescafe Azera, ain’t nobody got time for the French Press thang.

I tried Yoghurt yesterday and loved it! It was so tasty. I was confusing curd with yoghurt thinking they’re the same. I could never eat curd without feeling nauseous.

The weather has gotten colder. Tired of wearing a jacket now. I’d rather be cold than wear a jacket.
