Mulholland Drive

Mulholland Drive is a beautiful, sad movie. I watched it for the third time yesterday and appreciated it a lot this time around.

My first viewing was incredibly confusing and I didn’t understand anything. I assumed people like the movie because it’s plain confusing.

There is a great story here. This is all my interpretation.

2/3 of the movie is Diane’s fantasy about how she would have liked life to occur.

In reality,

The narration is controlled by Diane. Fantasy and reality. What we see in reality is not what actually happened but what she felt. This can be noticed by exaggerated events such as Camilla and Adam’s engagement announcement.

The acting and music are the best part. It all flows together.

The decision to reveal what the blue key means at the end is so powerful. Viewers only know at the end that Camilla is dead.

The diner scene is terrifying.

I am not going to talk about things that don’t make sense. They add to the charm of the movie.

The closing scene. Overlays of Camilla and Diane smiling.
